August Photo A Day, Days 18-24

I've been a bit of a Photo A Day failure this time around, I'm afraid. I've had a sinus infection this week and have felt too crummy to take photos some days. I'm all caught up now, but some of these were taken after the correct day; in other words, I took five of them today. ;) Not ideal, but I feel better knowing I'm caught up. I'm not a quitter!

Day 18: Someone you spoke to today. My husband, of course. :)

Day 19: Lost. The Parable of the Lost Son.

Day 20: Stairs.

Day 21: Slow.

Day 22: A room. Our bedroom.

Day 23: Yellow. A hose at the harbor.

Day 24: In the background. Do you see the pelican?

NY Fashion Week Luxury Gift Lounge

I'll be back with the next installment of Photo A Day soon, but I want to interrupt it with an exciting announcement: I am going to New York Fashion Week! Well, I'm not going, exactly. But my business cards are! Thanks to The Artisan Group, my Uninvented Colors business cards will be included in the swag bags at GBK's celebrity gift lounge! I am thrilled!

August Photo A Day, Days 12-17

Another week of Fat Mum Slim's Photo A Day has come and gone! Here's what happened with me and my camera (and, ok, my phone) this week.

The prompt for day 12 was "macro." I photographed the hydrangeas in our backyard. I've taken lots of pictures of these but never edited them quite like this, and I think I like it.

Day 13's prompt was "fast." I was thinking all day about how to capture something moving fast, but then my husband mentioned needing to get the piano tuned, and it gave me this idea. This music moves fast!

Day 14,'s prompt was "trash." I couldn't bring myself to photograph the stuff in the trash can, so I went with the outside of it. I had never realized what cool reflections happen on stainless steel!

The prompt for day 15 was "the best." My birthday was the 14th, and it was a good one! I got lots of love from family, friends, and co-workers. They really are the best!

Day 16's prompt was "cooking." We actually went out to eat, so there was no home cooking for me to photograph. So, how about some cookbooks? I am embarrassed to say that there are a couple of these that I have never used. I need to fix that soon!

Day 17 was an inspiring one for me, too. The prompt was "exercise." Exercise is normally an important part of my life, but I have been bad this summer. Travels, visitors, and lots of rain got me out of the habit, and I had not done much exercise recently. No more! After I struck this forward fold pose for the photo and realized it hurt, I decided something had to be done. So I did a great Pilates workout and am wonderfully sore today. I'm back in the habit. :)

August Photo A Day, Days 6-11

Despite my lack of blogging, I'm still keeping up with Photo A Day. The prompt for Day 6 was "this means a lot to me." I played around with this one a lot, but my favorite shot was this simple one of one of my favorite Charles Wesley hymns. The poetry is deeply beautiful, and the melody is so much fun to sing!

Day 7's prompt was "a sign." All day at work, I kept meaning to photograph the "Testing... Do Not Disturb" sign on the outside of my office door, but I managed to get home without doing it, so I roped by husband into posing for plan B. I think I like this sign better anyway. :)

For Day 8, the prompt was "peekaboo." I decided to peek out from behind the fascinating book I've been reading.

The prompt for Day 9 was "2:00." I happened to have some unscheduled time from 2-4 at work, which happens to coincide with happy hour at nearby Smoothie King. I love it when that happens!

The prompt for Day 10 was "beverage." Alex and I went to a party at our friends' house, and I snapped a shot of the collection of beverages on ice. I wish I had done it earlier in the night when it was fuller and the ice wasn't melted, but I still like way all these circles look.

The prompt for today, Day 11, was "I love doing this." We went to the yacht club this evening, which is one thing I love to do. I especially love drinking Shirley Temples on the deck as the sun sets.

Somehow I failed to realize (until now) that three photos in a row are of beverages. I think I need to diversify this coming week!

August Photo A Day, Days 1-5

After a two-month hiatus, I've returned to Fat Mum Slim's Photo A Day for August. I haven't been able to blog the past few days, but I promise I took these photos on the right days. ;) Let's play a bit of catch-up, shall we?

Day 1's prompt was "something beginning with N." Thursday morning, I snapped a quick Instagram shot of some of my necklaces.

Friday night, I had a lot of fun in New Orleans with my husband--and a bunch of "seafood elite" and seafood chefs from around the country. It was an extravagant celebration with lots of eating, drinking, and being merry, so the day's prompt ("incomplete") was a bit ironic. I managed to take one photo that fit the bill, though. This plate of a dozen charbroiled oysters is incomplete because I had already eaten one. :)

Saturday was a fun day in NOLA, too. Alex and I got to attend the Great American Seafood Cook-off...to be aired on the Food Network in a few months! It was a good time, but I was inside all day, so it was a bit hard to take a picture of the day's prompt, "skyline." The best I could do was this photo of a painting of the New Orleans skyline.

Sunday's prompt was "fresh." I was a bit exhausted that day, but I managed to take a picture of this lemon after my grocery shopping trip.

Unfortunately, between those last two photos, Alex had a car accident. He's fine, but his car isn't, which brings me to today's photo. Since I had to drive him to work (he starts work an hour earlier than me), I was in my office an hour earlier than usual. Today's prompt was "early," so that worked out perfectly. :)
